JF - CyberneticsTournament: CPS | Round: 2 | Opponent: Harker DV | Judge: David Dosch AND nothing now counts but the ersatz nothingness of data itself. Digital trauma. Empirics Prove: A recent America-backed coup in Bolivia over lithium supplies is concrete evidence of Cybernetics’ grasp on our society AND have no proof, but I am just suspicious in light of history.” Cybernetics ensures the production of catastrophe is maintained to enable new technological innovations. As technology ultimately fails to properly address existential crises, we enter a positive feedback loop of development in a futile effort to catch up with our problems AND registers and gives the reader an indication of the structure of the book.x Cybernetics and war are intrinsically tied, having developed around each other. Nukes were developed a cybernetic influence and nuclear war is the inevitable result AND socialist project that there would emerge the new interstate hostilities driving today’s cyberwar. Space is the new frontier of war driven by the lust for technological expansion. We conquer and weaponize space, turning it into yet another battleground to flaunt our progress AND Artificial war, then, as a prolegomenon to the codes of technology. Thus, I affirm the resolution Resolved: The appropriation of outer space by private entities is unjust. We employ the concept of The Inhuman to reject Cybernetics and reconfigure our relationship with technology- doing so is the only way to truly rid space of appropriation You should understand the aff as an analysis of our orientation to technology that reconfigures thought from cybernetic to techno-diverse- by rejecting the appropriation of space, we reject the societal narrative of limitless and inexhaustible technological progression. The Inhuman is our metaphor for separating humanity from its mechanical counterpart. AND there will be no longer any thinking, and no longer anything contingent? Our resistance is tangible- The aff generates interventions into the structure of imperialism. Targeted material resistance has the power to uproot Cybernetics and collapse the system AND , in urban or peri-urban non-places — is unpredictable. The Role of the Ballot is to think through virtual reality- considering a world in which the status quo of Cybernetics no longer exists. Our relationship to technology governs our very existence and the site of debate as an exchange of information collapses all thought into the cybernetic system. You should use your position as the judge to endorse research that resists this. AND technology, becoming the world-historical process animating the will to virtuality. | 12/19/21 |
JF - Cybernetics v2Tournament: Harvard-Westlake | Round: 2 | Opponent: Harker RM | Judge: Leah Villanueva The erosion of the distinction between human and machine, between knowledge and data, has already occurred. Climate scenarios based on tech are doomed to fail. Removing our obsessive relationship with technology is a prerequisite to addressing climate change- we can’t rely on developing tech like carbon-capture to save us AND CO2-separation units, and would require major transnational CO2- pipelines. ND - Berardi ACTournament: Longhorn | Round: 2 | Opponent: Westwood PM | Judge: Breigh Plat AND if they are able to share the same refrain, as Guattari would say Digitalized labor requires uniform compliance with Semiocapitalist structures. Workers are reduced to an easily replaceable unit of time; their dehumanization and lack of commonality renders organization, and therefore recombination, impossible AND implies a technological mutation but also a psychic mutation of the living mind. The structure of Semiocapitalism drives all action and prevents recomposition. Society’s inability to recompose means that people cannot be actors; they don’t have the ability to make change AND but is a kind of unavoidable catastrophe that we cannot oppose in any way Thus, the role of the ballot is to vote for the debater who best resists semiocapitalism. Prefer for three reasons: 1) Capitalist digitilization skews our concept of time and renders previous conceptions of progressive change meaningless. The only coherent evaluation of the past or the future must be first achieved through dismantling semiocapitalism AND oriented civilization because the limits of human knowability and controllability have been surpassed. 2) Liberal democracy has failed- any conception of change must be spearheaded with combatting semiocapitalism; dismantling semiocapitalism is a prerequisite to making change AND is a continuous proximity in time that info-labor no longer allows. 3) Semiocapitalism has destroyed the education system and pedagogical spaces like debate are uniquely equipped to combatting semiocapitalism’s grasp on learning and information. Behind all published works is a profit motive. AND institution for the re-activation of autonomy of knowledge from economic dogma. Contention I affirm the resolution Resolved: a just government ought to recognize an unconditional right of workers to strike. A just government is definitionally one that is not semiocapitalist, and affording workers an unconditional right to strike is crucial to allow for any form of recombination of society History proves- strong labor unions in the 20th century were the forefront of change and resistance to oppressive forces. In our current semiocapitalist economy, recognizing the unconditional right of strike rectifies this difference and puts power back in the hands of workers AND phone calls the workers to reconnect their abstract time to the reticular flux. | 12/4/21 |
