1 - Comic Sans ShellTournament: Yale Invitational 2021 | Round: 4 | Opponent: Strake Jesuit JW | Judge: Matthew Slencsak To pre-empt the 1AR - the ability to change the font doesn’t solve – it’s ableist to expect them to do something for your aesthetic preference. | 9/19/21 |
1 - Disclosure TheoryTournament: Yale Invitational 2021 | Round: Octas | Opponent: Claudia Taylor Johnson AP | Judge: Amulya Natchakuri, Neville Tom, Abhilash Datti Violation—they didn’t – screenshots.
Standards: 2 Aff quality—plan text disclosure discourages cheap shot affs. If the aff isn’t inherent or easily defeated by 20 minutes of research, it should lose—this will answer the 1ar’s claim about innovation—with 30 minutes of prep, there’s still an incentive to find a new strategic, well justified aff, but no incentive to cut a horrible, incoherent aff that the neg can’t check against the broader literature. 3 Level playing field – I’m from a small school with 2 entries and no coaching – we have limited prep and disclosure is key to pre-round adaptation. Big schools can collect flows, and craft prep-outs while we’re left in the dark. 4 Strategy – disclosure helps novices understand the context in which positions are read by good debaters and help with brainstorming potential args– helps compensate for lack of prep among small schools. 5 Engagement – Having an idea of what the aff is going to go for means I can read an NC contextual to the round and incentivizes clash. Voters: Alienation – the neg is uniquely alienating to small-school debaters who will struggle to bid without disclosure which kills equity in the debate space. Drop the debater – a deter future abuse, b set better norms for debate and c we indict the entire advocacy – dta makes no sense. Competing interps – a reasonability is arbitrary and encourages judge intervention since there’s no clear norm, b it creates a race to the top where we create the best possible norms for debate. No RVIs – a illogical, you don’t win for proving that you meet the burden of being fair, logic outweighs since it’s a prerequisite for evaluating any other argument, b RVIs incentivize baiting theory and prepping it out which leads to maximally abusive practices. | 9/19/21 |

1 - Must Wear MaskTournament: FFL Varsity States | Round: 3 | Opponent: Lake Highland Arjun Verma | Judge: Datti, Abhilash 2Interpretation: Debaters must always have their mask on unless eating or drinking.Violation: They took it offPrefer-1~ Safety- Spreading without a mask is the most probable way of spreading COVID and germs – that leads to debaters getting sick and not being able to participate in debate tournaments – this also links into happiness/mental health since tournaments will continue online debate tournaments and close down in person ones when they see an influx incases. Happiness/mental health is an independent voter because it means debaters have no motivation to do debate/participate in they're unhappy. Inclusion is a voter since its an impact filter to everything else2~ Resolvability and Judge Intervention- masks force debaters to speak slower and more clearly. That guarantees judges catching everything on the flow in order to make the correct decision.VoterNot wearing a mask is a voting issue – riskiest way of spreading COVID and compromising the safety of the debate space – comes first cuz it leads to debaters getting sick and not participating controls the i/l to inclusion and mental health. | 3/5/22 |

MA - NC Lay v1Tournament: FFL Varsity States | Round: 2 | Opponent: Cypress Bay Mohammad Zalikha | Judge: Ramnath, Rick FrameworkI negate the resolution: Resolved; In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy.I value Justice, defined as giving each their due, because the only reason to value something is because humans value it, which concedes that humans are valuable and deserving. The standard is maximizing expected wellbeing.1~ Only consequentialism explains degrees of wrongness—if I break a promise to meet up for lunch, that is not as bad as breaking a promise to take a dying person to the hospital. Only the consequences of breaking the promise explain why the second one is much worse than the first.2~ Actor specificity—governments must aggregate because their policies benefit some and harm others. The only non-arbitrary way to prioritize is by helping the most amount of peopleMack 4 ~(Peter, MBBS, FRCS(Ed), FRCS (Glasg), PhD, MBA, MHlthEcon) "Utilitarian Ethics in Healthcare." I reserve the right to define a word in a future speech if necessary.Observation 1Because the resolution states that news media must prioritize objectivity over advocacy, the role of the negative is not to prove that we shouldn't be using objectivity, only that it shouldn't be prioritized over advocacy.Contention 1 is the Systematic Exclusion of MinoritiesFirst of all, objectivity is impossible.
